home about sales tidy up sundays gallery press releases image trees information leaflets village fountain restoration christmas quiz scarecrow trail environment keep wales tidy living streets stories meetings agendas minutes contact officers contact form archives the next meeting will take place on ​thursday september 20th 2018 at 7.30 pm ​gresford trust memorial hall scarecrow trail 2018 ​here are the results after a very successful scarecrow tea (despite the weather!). rob walsh, deputy mayor, judged the scarecrows a week or so ago and today cllr andy williams and his mayoress, mrs beverley williams, were kind enough to attend to present the prizes. thank you rob and andy and beverley - it was great to have you so involved.... prizes were - winner - sleeping beauty (spar gresford) - prize was a voucher for a foot massage, provided by cache spar. second - the gingerbread man (lucy hughes) - prize was a bottle of prosecco, provided by the plough. third - beauty (lakeside beauty) - prize was a tin of chocolates, provided by gresford eyecare. the people's choice prize went to the gingerbread man - prize was a garden centre voucher provided by image. very closely behind the gingerbread man came humpty dumpty and row row row your boat. all entries with 30 correct answers to the scarecrow trail competition were placed in a tub and the mayor pulled out three names from those correct answers. none of the winners were at the prize-giving at the time, so we cannot publish their names until we have contacted them. the first prize was a garden voucher for £20, provided by wrexham plumbers' merchants ltd. second prize was a garden centre voucher for £10 provided by image, and third prize was a bottle of wine provided by gresford newsagents. many thanks to : all the local businesses who have supported the trail in one way or another - delmar (for printing 500 entry forms!), spar (for selling entry forms and for prizes), gresford newsagents (for selling entry forms and for prizes), marford co-op (for selling entry forms), gresford community library (for selling entry forms), wrexham plumbers merchants (for providing a prize), cache spa (for providing a prize), gresford eyecare (for providing a prize). especial thanks to everyone who made a scarecrow and to everyone who brought them along to the scarecrow tea today, and of course to the wonderful community of gresford and marford who embraced the trail with such enthusiasm this year. we sold 483 entry forms and have raised £878 after paying expenses. we will put an additional post up about how the money will be used once it has been agreed at our next committee meeting on 20 september, but we can assure you that it will all be used to help improve our local environment.. 255 entry forms were received (every one of which was checked) - 20 of those had all-correct answers. i don't think there is anything else i can possibly say at this point, except thank you all once again for your hard work and enthusiasm for the trail. are we doing it again? you bet! and we already know what the theme will be next year, but we're not telling you yet! thanks everyone . sue and barb. photos under scarecrow trail scarecrow_trail_answers.docx file size: 29 kb file type: docx download file planters and flower beds this hot summer is providing a huge challenge to image which has worked hard to improve the environment by planting trees and replacing old planters with new. these need to be watered and protected. it has not been possible to save some plants and trees from the incessant heat and one shrub by the noticeboard has been attacked by vine weevils. ​we simply don't have enough people to cope with the extreme demands of the conditions of this summer. this has been discussed over the last two or three months and unless we can recruit more active volunteers, we will need to sub-contract the tasks and will need funding via the community council to do so. failing this support, the environment will certainly be less attractive in future. can anybody help? we need people willing to plant, weed and water. please contact our secretary barbara watson on [email protected] more trees planted spring 2018 more new tubs in the village two more tubs have been purchased with the proceeds from this year's scarecrow trail. we instated them in november. new tubs would you be willing to adopt a tub? there are several tubs around gresford that image looks after. would you help us out by adopting one? all you need to do is keep it tidy and watered. please contact us via the website if you can help. more trees and flowers in gresford! thanks to grants from gresford community council, keep wales tidy and our fundraising in the village, we have ,established a resting place, two more trees and bedding plants in an eye-catching feature by the notice board. we hope you like it! special thanks to elton watson, senior tree offi cer, wcbc, have you noticed the new trees around the village? thanks to a grant from keep wales tidy, we were able to purchase 8 more trees. wcbc also replaced 3 trees - one was damaged deliberately, the other two just didn't thrive. all the trees are pollinator friendly and will provide more colour in the area in which they are planted. ​thank you to wcbc for planting them for us free of charge! clean for the queen photos 20th november was a proud night for image when many people including ian lucas mp and lesley griffiths am gathered at the gresford trust memorial hall for the annual awards from the wrexham area civic society. the restoration of the victorian drinking fountain was awarded first prize in the category of landscape and environmental improvement! margaret heaton and her husband bob were architects and managers of the project. margaret is pictured here receiving the award from cllr michael morris.
